In the Asia-Pacific region The company's product portfolio will include additional thermoplastic polyurethane mass balance products in the second half of 2022, following its launch in the European market. This new product is produced using biomass raw materials. or renewable biomass (such as used cooking oil), which has a smaller carbon footprint compared to fossil-based products. Still maintaining quality and features and can lead to production processes in downstream industries without any technical adjustments. which in this context Products will be certified according to ISCC Plus standards.
“Asia Pacific is the most dynamic and fastest growing region for our TPU products FL Number used in industries such as IT, electronics, footwear, films and sheets and many more. We look forward to creating value for our customers through our products. More sustainable solutions include mass-balanced TPU produced directly from our regional production base,” said Dr. Andrea Maier-Richter. Head of Covestro's global TPU business said: “I am very excited that we will soon be able to help our customers in Asia Pacific reduce their carbon footprint with this drop-in solution. in line with our global carbon footprint,” said Lisa Ketelsen, Head of Sales and Market Development, TPU Covestro Asia Pacific. “With ISCC Plus certification, we aim to increase transparency from the raw material purchase process through to the production and distribution of products to customers. This is an important step in realizing our vision of a fully circular economy.”
Broadening the range of sustainable TPU plastic products In the past few years Covestro has launched a range of TPU products using alternative resources. This is because consumers are increasingly demanding the use of sustainable products. Take, for example, the company VAUDE, which produces shoes and hiking equipment. Footwear foam partially made from bio-based TPU is used in a new hiking shoe called Lavik Eco. It also has components that are partially produced with CO₂ instead of fossil raw materials. Covestro's Desmopan® range also includes fully recycled products. and is used in mobile phone cases from the Dutch company Fairphone. Thermoplastic polyurethane is a plastic that can be used in many different applications. There are several levels of hardness. Flexible yet durable Therefore it is ideal to be used in a variety of products. Mass balance creates transparency. The supply of mass balance products is part of Covestro's global roadmap towards a fully circular economy. The company places importance on increasing the use of alternative resources such as bio-based raw materials, plastic waste and CO₂, as well as various alternative energies.
