Rookfang and Greymouse were a rather unconventional couple. Rookfang had always been an anomaly in the fun-loving SunClan for her fiery temper and fierce distaste for WindClan. Greymouse, on the other hand, was the only kit to a quiet SunClan warrior and a soft kittypet. Most did not know his half-clan origins and chalked up his existence to some dumb fling his mother had. Greymouse himself was a lover, not a fighter most well known for his ability to imitate birdsong. Rookfang and Greymouse's coupling stemmed from an incident in newleaf when a fox moved into SunClan territory. Rookfang and Greymouse accidentally found themselves in a double team fight to the death against the fox and somehow survived. Their descent into love was quick after that.
Rookfang gave birth to a litter of kits in the middle of leaf-fall. In typical Rookfang-fashion, the birth was not easy. She ended up giving birth to seven kits, something that nearly gave the medicine cat a heart attack. Miraculously, all the kits survived their first night. Long enough for the stressed out Greymouse to name all of them. In his panic, Greymouse decided to name all his kits after the trees that surrounded the SunClan camp. Maplekit, Sprucekit, Pinekit, Hickorykit, Willowkit, Forestkit, and Treekit. Greymouse would never admit to anyone that he might have mixed up the names of his kits several times in the first few days after their birth. It wasn't his fault all newborn kits looked the same when they were only several days old.
Treekit adored her huge family. Even if they did take up the whole nursery with their numbers. The joke in the clan was that Rookfang's litter would dominate the whole clan in several moons. For now, the litter was preoccupied with enjoying their days as kits. Their first moon was spent trying to gain control of their limbs and tongues for walking and speaking. As soon as the army of kits had that down, all hell was unleashed upon the clan. The kits quickly picked up the clan tradition of hording useless things and their more vain nature. Treekit loved to use sap from the surrounding pine trees to spike her fur and took an interest in collecting bugs: something her mother did not appreciate.
If there was ever trouble afoot, Treekit could usually be found in the thick of it. She was easily fit into the role of leader among her siblings and always instigated their mischief. She liked to hide thorns in the warriors' nests; put pine cones in the fresh kill pile while claiming it was time SunClan went vegan; and even managed to steal an elder's precious bird skull right from under their nose. Let's just say Treekit spent a lot of her time being chased around the camp by furious cats.
Eventually the snow started to fall and bare-leaf set in. With it, Treekit and her siblings were ushered into the trees that surrounded camp. Treekit fell in love with heights. She loved being in trees and jumping from branch to branch like a squirrel. Greymouse bemoaned the opportunity to call her Squirrelkit Living up in the trees severely limited the amount of trouble the kits could get into. The whole clan made an effort to keep the kits confined to one tree where they were in no danger of falling. With all seven kits confined to one small space, tempers quickly spiked. Treekit got into a physical fight with her brother Pinekit when she told him his teeth looked crooked. Both Treekit and Pinekit were placed in opposite sides of the tree for the remainder of the day for that one.
By the time the snow began to melt, it was time for the Tree-siblings to be named apprentices. The whole clan breathed a sigh of relief. Treekit stood in the middle of the lineup of her siblings with her chest puffed out with pride as the leader walked before them. Eventually the leader stood before her, a strong cat that Treekit idolized. They looked down upon Treekit and paused for a moment. "Treekit," They began. "Will you promise to uphold the word of StarClan and honour your clan by following the warrior code?" She wiggled in place and nodded her head frantically. "Yes! I will be line no warrior you have ever seen before!" The leader paused, surprised by her comment. They seemed to consider Treekit for a long moment before continuing with the ceremony. The newly named Treepaw was introduced to her future mentor: Antlerstripe.
Antlerstripe was golden boy in SunClan. He was once a simple abandoned kit who had been found by a SunClan patrol. Now he was the acclaimed strongest warrior in the clan. Treepaw was thrilled to be his apprentice.
